Location: ETTRICK VALLEY
Stage: PLANNING
A low slung, pavilion type lodge in the Scottish Borders currently in planning process.
"The principle form is a single rectilinear gesture, perhaps the simplest form possible denoting a shelter and retreat, low in the site despite it's elevated position."
Designed to have a low carbon footprint, the lodge will provide a high-quality short stay accommodation in a beautiful, wild valley in the often overlooked Borders. In a very rural location, just outside a local development plan, our strategy seeks to create a context driven design, including material choices that are durable and hardy, with a quiet simplicity that in no way detracts from the landscape. The lodge is back-clothed by a localised ridgeline and the charred timber exterior will become a simple shadow in the landscape, nestled to the site with informal native planting.
